Death, Jordan Drake, Indian River HS student died on May 19, loved ones mourns

16-year-old Indian River High School junior Jordan Drake passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2024, an after-prom party in the town of Theresa. When they arrived at a private property in Evans Mills at approximately 3:15 a.m., troopers say they were contacted about a male who was unconscious and resting in the driveway. After being transported to the Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown, Theresa resident Jordan Drake was pronounced dead. Early in the evening, Drake was at the after-prom party, according to the preliminary inquiry.

According to the statement released, Jordan was an active IRHS student with many close friends and family ties throughout the community.

Upon hearing of the tragic news, the IRHS Crisis Intervention Team started preparations to help students and staff cope with this loss. School counselors and other members of our team will be available on Monday and through the coming days/weeks at the High School and throughout the school district, Indian River Central School District said. “We will see and experience a range of adult- and student-generated activities starting with a “wear Blue and White” campaign on Monday. Again, IRCSD will provide layers of support throughout the foreseeable future.”

All students, staff, and members of our community are encouraged to join together tomorrow, Monday, May 20, 2024 and wear blue and white. A student death is a difficult and challenging situation that can generate a high level of anxiety and distress in some students and adults. All IRCSD schools will have counseling staff available for assistance on Monday and beyond.

Indian River High School

The city of Chesapeake, Virginia is home to the high school known as Indian River High School. At the beginning of the 2018–19 academic year, there were roughly 1700 students enrolled. The school has won a number of sports championships in the Southeastern District, including the Academic Challenge team, which has won the championship for two consecutive years, as well as championships in the Eastern Region for both boys and girls basketball, football, and basketball. Deep Creek High School, Oscar F. Smith High School, and Great Bridge High School are all schools that the Braves have been competing against for a very long time.
